Top Ten Christmas Movies I Grew Up With

When I was a kid, I was not the type who's very excited about Christmas parties and Family reunions. I'm the "Couch Potato" Type, spending hours of watching movies especially during the Christmas eve (thank God for the cable channels). For almost 25 years of celebrating Christmas, I eventually grew up with a lot of Christmas Movies being shown each year, and now that I have kids, they might as well grow watching those movies too. Here are my Top 5 Christmas Movies I grew up with.

5. The Grinch. This Character created by Dr. Seuss was portrayed by Jim Carrey in the 2000 film adaptation of the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" which was published in 1957. Mr. Carrey played the character so well that I've hated him (as a kid) for stealing the Christmas presents for the kids and ruining Christmas.

4. Edward Scissorhands. Starring in this movie was Wynona Ryder as the Teenage Girl named Kim who fell in love with Edward Scissorhands, Played by Johnny Depp. This unconventional and odd lovestory and the gentleness of Edward despite him having scissor hands have made this movie on my "Christmas movie marathon list".

3. The Harry Potter Series. I've spent half of my life waiting for the sequel of each movies each year and was among the movies I'll never get tired of watching over and over. Some of the scenes depicted Christmas with Ron, Hermione, and Harry exchanging gifts while spending Christmas in the holiday-decorated Hogwarts.

2. The Home Alone Series. Who wouldn't know Kevin McCallister, the boy who was always left alone on Christmas? This Smart adorable kid played by Macauly Caulkin send me laughing my heart out as he dealt hilariously with two "would-be-burglars" Harry and Marv which fell to his trap as they planned to rob the McCallister's house. No doubt this movie was hailed as The Highest Grossing Comedy Film of All Time.

1. The Nativity. I've watched this 1978 film on a betamax, a vintage video player which was fed by a large rectangular tape, the same size as a regular notebook which was famous during the 90's. Though the rise of the modern gadgets eradicated the betamax, it has never erased this wonderful story preserved on the film. We can still read the nativity of Jesus Christ in the bible and remember always that the spirit of Christmas is not about parties, gifts, festivities, and "drunken-ness". Christmas is about family, love, and sharing, and the birth of the little boy laid to the manger, surrounded by Mary, Joseph, The Sheperds, and the Angels, proclaiming him as the savior of mankind. Let us not forget above anything else to greet our baby Jesus a Happy Birthday! :)

15 Life Lessons from John Lennon

32 years ago, the world was shocked by the death of one of the world's greatest musician, composer, and The Beatles front-man John Lennon. We all remember him through his music, his "strawberry fields" and "Lucy in the sky" controversies with drugs, particularly with LSD, his unconventional romance with his wife Yoko Ono, his bed-ins for peace, his "Imagine"-nation for world peace, and a lot more. His legacy and memory will live on as long as there's music and as long as people believe in the power of music in uniting the humanity. Here are 15 life lessons John has left us through his music.

  • Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.
  • Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.
  • It doesn't matter how long my hair is or what color my skin is or whether I’m a woman or a man.
  • A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.
  • Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.
  • If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.
  • I get by with a little help from my friends.
  • You don’t need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are!
  • Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears.
  • There’s nowhere you can be that isn't where you’re meant to be…
  • One thing you can’t hide – is when you’re crippled inside.
  • Give Peace A Chance.
  • All you need is LOVE.
  • Imagine All The People, Living Life in PEACE.

This influenced a new genre of music which expressed the mind-altering experiences of the psychedelic drugs. Top 20 Rock one-hit wonders

These are some of my favorite rock one-hit wonders. Some of the artists in this list have released a followup album and singles but never made it big like the first hit singles that topped the US and UK billboard charts. I wonder where are these artists now. I've already embedded a playlist so it will be easier for you to listen to the songs. Enjoy!

Female Fronted Metal Bands

A lot of rockbands are fronted by amazing females who have proved that rock music is not only for the dominant males. Successful females in the rock scene include: Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani, Hayley Williams, Dolores O' Riordan, and many more. Now that women have penetrated the rock scene mainly populated by men, the rock metal/death metal music already included women, even making them the voice of   a hard and heavy music. Whoever said women can't do metal will be mesmerized by these 10 female-fronted metal bands' voice, music, and beauty. Girl Power!!

Rock Artists Who Died Before Age 30

Today is the 41st death anniversary of the music industry's greatest electric guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Like Hendrix, some of the rockstars' lives are inspirational, dramatic, and tragic. Some continue to live until their old age, and some had lived to fame and popularity only to cut short by accidents, disease, drug-related problems, and suicide. Here are Top ten rockstars who died before the age 30.

10. Kurt Cobain - On April 8, 1994, Cobain's body was discovered at his Lake Washington home by an electrician who had arrived to install a security system. Apart from a minor amount of blood coming out of Cobain's ear, the electrician reported seeing no visible signs of trauma, and initially believed that Cobain was asleep until he saw the shotgun pointing at his chin. A note was found, addressed to Cobain's childhood imaginary friend "Boddah", that stated that Cobain hadn't "felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing . . . for too many years now". A high concentration of heroin and traces of diazepam were also found in his body. Cobain's body had been lying there for days; the coroner's report estimated Cobain to have died on April 5, 1994. He was 27 at the time of his death. (Wikipedia)
